The Sailors Rest, St Peter's Street

in the same almost public space as the Wolsey statue and facing as you come from Silent Street is this impressive brick building dating from about 1700. It was used a cafe with this name, but no record of it ever having been a pub, or for matter whatever else. Its saving from the bulldozers by the Ipswich Society in 1970 was a turning point in the modernisation/vandalisation of the town centre
