It is my understanding that reddish brown eye-color is within the range of variation for a hatch-year bird. They certainly aren't bright red. Further, while I'm not especially handy with the aging of primary coverts, the contrastingly pale brown and tapered primary coverts on this bird fit my expectations for a hatch-year.
