Isafjörður – the name means fjord of ice. Regional capital of the West Fjords, with a population of 2600, situated on the Ísafjarðardjúp fjord,
which is the largest of the West Fjords. The old town boasts some of the finest timber buildings in the country, beautifully restored.
These, however, are more modern, and appear to be made from the ubiquitous corrugated iron.
