27th January 2015

Dad: we have a very hard choice to make in the next few days. I'm sorry to have to tell you that Pooch has developed dermodex - a
skin condition which flares up towards the end of life when the immune system starts to fail. Our vet is willing to treat it with an
unlicensed drug - but has warned us that Pooch's existing severe skin/allergy problems cannot be treated at the same time, as they
need completely conflicting treatment with immunosuppressants. The vet has suggested we also 'consider Pooch's quality of life' - by
which he means euthanasia.
We have got to decide whether to try the dermodex treatment and wait to see how it affects his other conditions,
or whether to call it a day and to let our dear friend go. We've been turning it over in our minds for the past 24 hours already and
haven't been able to decide what to do.
Such a hard choice. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.
Meanwhile, Pooch is quite bright in himself at the moment and is as comfortable as we can make him. He has been sleeping a
lot as usual, but has also had bursts of barking, showing an eager interest in meal-times, and brief plays with his soft toys.

We are with you in spirit as you were with us when Max was sick.
Pooch makes so many of us smile. Thinking of both Poochmum and you Ev.

Sorry to hear of Pooch's illness and of your very difficult decision ahead. Pooch will tell you when it is time.

Yvonne and the others wrote what I was thinking. Pooch will help you to make the right decision. As long as he is eager to eat, he is still enjoying himself. My thoughts are with you and Poochmum during this difficult time.

C'est triste, il est tellement habituel de le croiser sur Pbase depuis des années, On a tous en tête, ses ballades, ses rencontres, sa belle et bonne vie de chien....
De tout cœur avec lui et avec vous

Oh dear... I think Pooch will be the decider, if you see him suffer and go downhill, that will be the time. We had this with our little Jacqui, it was such a heart wrenching time.
We'll be thinking of you all, he's been part of our lives as well Ev. Thank you so much
for sharing him with us all. xx Hugs

In his photo, Pooch still looks very alert, and well, like "Pooch". It also sounds like he still enjoys life.

This one little dog has had a huge Pbase following for a lot of years. His photos have brought smiles and even joy to his followers around the world. Pooche's bond with you also shows in nearly every photo you've ever posted. Now, it's up to you to trust your heart in one of the most important decisions of his life. Pooch will help you to decide on the right choice. Trust your heart.

Oh wow, I am so sorry that you are left with such a choice. That would be very difficult. Thoughts are with you and Mum.

A very hard decision, a heartbreaking one. I listened to a vet in October a year and a half ago and to this day I regret it.

Oh dear, I feel for you all. It is nearly a year ago I had to have Katie put to sleep, and Mack the year before that. Enjoy the cuddles, barks and play while you can.

I can relate to this situation...we were last faced with the same decision last July. It will always be a difficult decision, but it will always be what's best for Pooch, I know.
Best wishes to you three...

It's the hardest decision you'll ever have to make but I'm sure you'll do the right thing. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
Best wishes to you and Poochmum.
