Dad: we have a very hard choice to make in the next few days. I'm sorry to have to tell you that Pooch has developed dermodex - a
skin condition which flares up towards the end of life when the immune system starts to fail. Our vet is willing to treat it with an
unlicensed drug - but has warned us that Pooch's existing severe skin/allergy problems cannot be treated at the same time, as they
need completely conflicting treatment with immunosuppressants. The vet has suggested we also 'consider Pooch's quality of life' - by
which he means euthanasia.
We have got to decide whether to try the dermodex treatment and wait to see how it affects his other conditions,
or whether to call it a day and to let our dear friend go. We've been turning it over in our minds for the past 24 hours already and
haven't been able to decide what to do.
Such a hard choice. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.
Meanwhile, Pooch is quite bright in himself at the moment and is as comfortable as we can make him. He has been sleeping a
lot as usual, but has also had bursts of barking, showing an eager interest in meal-times, and brief plays with his soft toys.
