05-AUG-2014 Vern Rogers (fotabug fotos)

Little Redhead

Saw this little cutie sitting on a barbed wire fence. I don't seem to find it in my Birds of Oregon book, so not sure what it is. Any thoughts? I see some say house sparrow and it does look like this picture of a non breeding adult male, except the yellow on the beak, as seen here - http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/house_sparrow/id (scroll down to picture of non breeding adult male and read description), It's a male house sparrow!

A lovely shot of him, Vern. And I see that he has already been identified for you as the male House Sparrow. We do have an "introduced" version of the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, but they are mostly around St. Louis, Missouri and Illinois (and this is not him). ;) These males are such handsome little birds, aren't they!

Hernan has it correct. This is a male House Sparrow, formerly known as English Sparrow.

Yes, as Bea says, here it known as a Tree Sparrow. The House Sparrow has a grey crown.

Nice detail and color on the bird, and I like the composition with the barbed wire running through the frame.

Would it be a male Sparrow with that black throat? They're just about everywhere!
