Northern Lights eh?!!

All over the news they have been talking about how TONIGHT WAS THE NIGHT to see the Northern Lights... Well, my wife and I decided to go out to see what we could find. First we put on about 3 layers of clothing as it was -16c. We had picked a spot that I thought would be a good mix of sky and scenery to add more to the image.

So we waited.....

And we waited....

We drank Hot Chocolate....

Then... Bam - NOTHING! NADA! ZIP!!!

We made the best of it, I explained how the camera was taking pictures in almost complete darkness and why it would be great to have 2 cameras like this.

At this point the feeling left my feet, hands and other parts that I wish not to discuss. So, here is my first image of 2014!! YA! Its... not the Northern Lights!

I think I will add those to my list of things that don't exist! The list also includes Owls and Moose if your curious.

Well you had a pleasant night and a neat night shot just the same.
Forecasting 'lights' is like the weather - call for sun and it rains, flurries and a blizzard results, etc, etc (Sorry David Phillips)
I too did some waiting here in the mid-US, but cloud let me go to bed at a decent time.

You'll be happy to know I landed securely on my face as well. Surprising, my wife did not accompany me.
(Owls do exist btw :)

this was the shot, perspective and environment to get this done in. Just missing the Northern Lights.
While it's no consolation to not see or shoot them, YOU WENT out, and tried. Cliche I know, but you would have ALWAYS wondered what you had not saw if you hadn't gone. Just saying. Your richer inside for taking this shot and having the experience!
