There is a common perception amongst photographers that the only time it is worth shooting a landscape scene is at the extreme ends of the day. Whilst I certainly believe that some of the finest quality light is present in the very first moments of available light, to universally discredit the remainder of the day seems to me to be ridiculously shortsighted and out of tune with the general population.
Here is a view of Mellon Udrigle bay one of the very finest beach scenes I know in some gorgeous dappled afternoon light of extraordinary clarity beneath a stunning sky. Ironically only myself and my children were there to enjoy it.
