Origami Disaster!

PaD January - Black and White

A photo like this requires an explanation!

In her later years my wife added Origami to her hobbies (such as photography).
She prefered large geometric shapes, not the usual tiny paper cranes. I have
perhaps a dozen around the house, including four of her large, 60 piece units
hanging from the ceiling. They are breakable since there is no glue or staples
holding them together, only the sharply folded paper gives it strength.
The changing humidity causes them to eventually droop.

This one was only hanging in my bedroom for a couple of years. I looked at it
often as I lay half awake at daybreak. Even this morning when it was broken
it is eye catching. The heat/breeze/air conditioning cause it to slowly rotate
back and forth. I watch the holes through the unit change among all sorts of
triangles and four sided figures.

I was reversing the box spring on my bed when I bumped it and as you can see it is
beyond repair. I think it will be replaced with this unit I posted on PaD in 2010:

Sorry to hear of its accident. It now looks like a cat laying on its side!

This looks like the body of a bird holding onto the curtain rod! Such a cool work of art! :)

It is marvelously intricate work requiring a lot of patience. Very nice! V
