Deck the Doors

Tradition: Each year, on the first weekend of December there is a large celebration in Williamsburg, Virginia, known as the Grand Illumination with fireworks, parades and plenty else. The place is mobbed. Among the many things that occur, there is a competition of wreath decorations in the Colonial Village (no lights or glitter). Here are a few of this year's entries

And Wreaths from previous years: http://www.pbase.com/charette/wreaths

Some think the imaginative decorations of Williamsburg started during the Colonial days but setting fresh fruit out in the middle of winter would be quite extravegant for the colonist. No, the tradition started during the restoration of Williamsburg in the mid-30s.

Classic style. Dad was a student and fan of Williamsburg style.
