Hmm, I seem to be missing a photo. I know that I took at least one last week but the last one currently posted is the one for 10 July. It's probably on the Olympus' card but since I'm pretty much out of hard disk space I've been sparing about when I download images.
But to today's shot. This is the story of the week. It started raining around Tuesday. It has not stopped raining since Tuesday. Sometimes showers, often drenching, soaking rain. The rain has often been accompanied by strong winds which, by Saturday, had kicked up quite a swell on the ocean. You can see that swell forming the backdrop to the Austinmer tidal pool here. In fact the waves were often breaking the better part of a metre over the railings at the far end of the pool, which I can see in some of the other shots that I took and which I'll add to the Northern Illawarra gallery when time allows. For some reason, the two avian spectators sitting on the railing were unperturbed by this.
This shot came at a small cost; I was shooting from what (appeared to be) above the high water mark. When I was all set up to shoot the ocean decided to redefine the high water mark... up to around my knees. The Manfrotto tripod obviously copped it too but held its ground well, though it does have a bunch of wet sand in the lower legs and will need a bit of cleaning and maybe a squirt or ten of WD40 to restore it to a pristine state.
We went for lunch at Austinmer later that day and found that the tide had come in and the breakers were more intense. I didn't have the camera with me then, but figured that one run-in with the Pacific was enough for one day anyway.
