End of an air force. Surplus MiG-21's and MiG-23BN's stored at Drewitz, awaiting their destiny. Most MiG-23BN's were interesting enough to go to musea, but almost all MiG-21's present were scrapped in '92-'93. Drewitz had some experience with scrapping, as the entire Jagdgeschwader 7 'Wilhelm Pieck' (around 50 MiG-21SPS/US) was broken up here in a few months in late-1989 (as a gesture from the East Germans at the time). Noted in May 1992: 15 MiG-23BN's and 142 MiG-21's (SPS, M, MF, Bis and UM). Other scrapping facilities were at Dresden and Rothenburg.
