Liberation day

Melbourne, Australia

My parents were dreaming in 1945 of a peaceful world,
but since the end of the Second World War in 1945 there have been over 250 major wars
in which over 23 million people have been killed,
tens of millions made homeless, and countless millions injured and bereaved.

Isn't every day a Dutch Day? My mother has very vivid memories of that day. And I was able to see the bullet holes in the houses shot as warning shots for those "violating" curfew...So many stories...and so many memories..

Thanks for sharing.

A lovely photo and wise words. Sadly, we have been at war in one way or another for millenia! We can't seem to learn peace. V

The two words the world endlessly fights for. Great thoughtful photo and monuments.

Unfortunately war will never end. It is a vicious cycle. Power hungry people will not let war die. It is sad but history repeats itself and has been going on since the beginning of time. A beautiful sentiment and a beautiful image!

Such beautiful and simple monuments! Yes, peace is elusive!

Every century there have been war after war. That's it how our history was crafted - through wars... and through victory and liberty - until the next time!!
