Six-spotted tiger beetle (Cicindela sexguttata)

Larose Forest

This gorgeous brilliant green (sometimes appears blue) beetle is something I always look for on the first warm days of early spring, along wooded trails. Most local tiger beetles, unlike this one, seem to prefer open sunny areas, particularly sandy sites. Note the huge mandibles on this one, probably a male given the size of those things. The males use them to grasp the female during mating (but females have big mandibles too).
