Great series Jola, and definitely one of my favorite fruit.
Laine is correct, the origin of the English word comes from the resemblance of the Pineapple to pine cones. In most countries the name is Ananas or Anana, the only one that I can think of where it is different is Mexico, where it is called Piña, again because of the pine cone.

Is it as sweet as it looks? Ours here from the store are not fresh so they are more bitter. I love the Hawaiian ones that are so sweet! Yummy!

I believe they are named pineapples because when first discovered ( Chris Columbus I think )they looked like the pine cone from the pine tree. From South America originally, but grew very well in Hawaii and here in Queeensland. We have these small very sweet ones here as Janice said...this shot makes me want one :))

I have seen these Pineapples growing in Australia - it is strange seeing them grow in the soil and not in a tree.
Well done Jola - you fooled me until the 4th photo
