On the Move

It has been said that Antarctica Fur Seals can move up to 30 MPH. Plus a human can not outrun them. Therefore, it is best not to do anything that would make one want to seriously go after you.

Lou is right about the brutal mass murder of these lovely animals for their pelts. However, if the Fur Seals of the 19th and early 20th Century were anything like their descendants today, they didn't understand the need for a fear of humans. Sadly, those seals probably didn't try to run away from their attackers - not until it was too late. Nevertheless, (like bears and many other wild animals) they will instinctively chase a person running away from them.

In spite of what you are telling us about their ability to defend themselves, they had no defenses against the sealers who slaughtered them in the thousands in the 1800's -early 1900's just for fur coats. They did it just by clubbing them to death. No guns needed! Anyway, great shot. They looks great, even if you have to stay at a distant. Well done.
