Onde (French)

Nashville, TN

Submitted for the April Scavenger Hunt Challenge.

Onde is French for wave. In this case the waves are
infrared (IR). The eye is an amazing instrument. It
can see light/color in the visible spectrum (420nm -
780nm). Below that is the invisible spectrum that we
all worry about when in the sun for long periods of
time (ultraviolet)with shorter and shorter wave lengths.
Above that is the spectrum known as infrared which has
wave lengths increasing upward of 800nm (this kicks in
at around 750nm and shoots up to about 1150nm (for our
photographic purposes. The actual IR spectrum goes on
up to 2500nm in the Near-infrared range, 10,000nm when
we move into the Mid-infrared range and 1mm (30GHz) in
the Far-infrared range. Blah dee blah blah blah ;-)

The use of filters allows us to see in photography
this amazing and unique range of light. In this case
the filter is an internal 715nm filter replacing the
infrared blocking filter that comes standard in front
of the sensor of digital cameras. This amazing filter
allows the photographer to shoot hand held without the
loss of many of the functions of the camera that the
external lens mounted IR filters don't allow.

Pure drama on the trees

very technical all that text, but it does explain a lot. Our eyes must have sorrow heat filters, to loose all that beauty.... I wonder what aliens sees it without the aid of filter, and will we ever meet them? i know I know things always get out of hand with me. :)
Good work.

Beautiful light and details. I guess this would have worked for 'particle' too :o)

Excellent choice of interpretation oh this French word ! "Onde" could be several things and the infrared is a kind of wave, meanning "onde" !
Well done !
