Christmas Wafers

My friends from Kilimanjaro Association and I had an early Christmas Eve last Monday to spend time together and to wish Merry Xmas to one another.
Every of us prepared some traditional meal for the supper and we started it with sharing the wafers.
A semi-transparent thin wafer (Oplatek), is specially made of flour and water and has some sacred signs stamped upon it - IHS or a pictured scenes of the Nativity.
It is a Polish custom that at the begining of the Christmas Eve Supper peolple break the wafer with everyone present, eat it as a symbol of their unity with Christ and wish a happy Christmas to one another.

For December challenge "SHAPES", more to be seen here http://forum.pbase.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=42861&sid

So delicate and fine image, Jolka. Very interesting story too but I particularly noticed one thing : you belong to a Kilimanjaro Association ???? That's great ! For years I almost had a room with a view on the Kilimandjaro, from Arusha ! what is the aim of your Association ?

Very informative, Jola. They look so thin and fragile. Well done.

I love the story behind the wafers. We did that last year and I hope to do it again this year. It is like sharing my Christmas with you, at least in spirit. I feel it. Love this image!

They do like square communion wafers. Fascinating tradition for Christmas and a very nice image with the welcoming hands.
