On a particularly fine autumnal morning I found myself on the edge of a small birch copse overlooking a clearing in the woods. I decided to fill the frame with the vertical columns of birch trees and allow the blue sky to play off against the dazzling crown of golden birch leaves. Unfortunately I had left it a little to late in the day to get there so after much consideration I opted to smear some vaseline across a clear filter to add a more painterly interpretation to it. Even after adding the vaseline I felt the image lacked something and it was only after converting it to black and white I ended up being truly pleased with it.
