1950's - aerial view of fire damaged warehouse in downtown Miami

Miami, Florida

Thank you to Stan Meade for contributing this great old image and Jeff Levine for identifying the location and the photographer as Ernie W. Skog.

On the block across the street from the damaged warehouse, I can read "(something) Chemical Laboratories", "Miami Grocery Co." and "Dade Sanitary Products Co." on the sides of the walls facing the warehouse.

Miami Grocery Co was located at 1044 NE Second Avenue in 1953. The building directly across the street was Nathan Strauss-Duparquet Hotel Supply Co. It was located at 1100 NE Second Avenue. The fire may have broken out in one of their warehouses. Directly west of the fire was the Little Terrace Hotel at 153 NE 11th Street. The chemical company on the other corner was the Biscayne Chemical Laboratories Co at 200 - 212 NE 11th Street.

It looks like there are still some residential homes to the right of the warehouse. Too bad they were not preserved.
