This canyon holds great fascination for me. You drive across almost barren high desert for many miles and then walk to the edge of this canyon and look down on a green and fertile valley. The Anasazi abandoned this area many hundreds of years ago and it's still farmed by the Navajo and is part of Navajo Tribal Trust land. One can only enter the canyon itself with native guides using your own vehicle or with a rented jeep or on horseback. Most trails also require a native guide.
Bre and I stayed in the park service's free campground under stupendous golden cottonwoods.
