I like here happy face. The soft flash adds much to it. very nice.

Fabulously expressive!

Nice portrait. The flash has softened the image nicely (and added the catchlights) without the harsh shadows you can sometimes get from flash. I think that's because of a combination of the diffuser, the use of P mode where flash is used as fill rather than main light, and the use of portrait orientation (when the flash is mounted on hotshoe) as it moves the flash to the side where the shadows tend to be more flattering than they are from above.

Great 'feel good' shot - glad you're going with the 'happy' theme.
Looking forward to the rest of the month.

I decided for this challenge to post the pics out of the camera without Photoshopping anything except adding my name. My flash is a Canon 430EX and has a built-in diffuser that covers the flash. It really reduced the brightness on the face and nicely lit her just enough, putting the flashpoints in the eyes. I was very pleased with the the exposure. Thanks for the question! It's great to have to give this all some consideration, instead of just point and shoot and post.

Great expression and a lovely smile. I'm surprised the image isn't brighter, given the flash. In the spirit of we're all here to learn, can you talk about that? Did you reduce the brightness in Photoshop, for example?

Rachael has a smile brighter than any flash...!!! Great shot.
