Thanks, Rod and Penny. Aam and CJ, I think there's a range of opinions about panning and focus, with some saying only that the subject should be more in-focus than the blurred background. I personally sometimes like the impressionistic feeling that is created when everything has so much motion blur that the subject is only suggested. In any event, they're fun to experiment with, esp. for someone like me, who needs to loosen up a bit when I'm shooting.

The girl kind of floats over the biggest patch of light. This has a really special quality to it. I love the big tree shadow too. Penny Street

I think this works really well, in fact I luv it. As a rule National Geographic are correct in wot they say but we never say never. If National Geographic saw this they would luv it because all the great picys break the rules. This is superb.

Agree with CJ. I once read an article in National Geographic about panning and it said there must be something, even a small thing, in focus. Of course we don't have to follow what they say but afraid it's applicable here.

Yes, I was panning. It was at a summer camp, and the kids were zig-zagging down a steep hill, making it difficult to follow them.

Nice dappled sunlight but I kinda wish the child was a bit more in focus. Were you panning? :-) CJ
