Harsh Times

Middlesex

For the "Country" Totally Informal Transglobal Challenge
more xenophobic entries can be see in the forum here

::Part of my Thursday Challenge Collection::

This sorry specimen was flying outside a building on the A4
I am amazed that anyone would have the temerity to fly our national flag in this state.
They should be ashamed of themselves.

being a welshman I find this one quite amusing (and before you say anything remember the rugby and the boxing and the FA cup )

NIce shot got to love those old flag!

I'd like to think they were making a statement by it- or maybe that it had been damaged in some incident and they were showing it still had strength? But, I am known for optimism. It's a very evocative piece, though. Nicely seen.

It seems Godzilla was on tour and just passed by ... :-)

Shame on them... very 'Little Britain!!'

But the state of the flag suggests the state of a nation!!!!
Or it's just the tatty possession of Wayne and Waynetta Slob!

Guilty.... I must admit I have flown a tattered flag.
But my flag was in better shape than the administration it represented.

Contrary to my initial thought, I did replace it with a fresh banner, this year.
Although we still have a raggedy administration.

Ouch.
joanteno05-Jul-2007 19:32
Agree, I suspect this would be against the law in the US. Nice shot, though.
Guest 05-Jul-2007 18:35
it's a shame, well done.
Luca Zanoni05-Jul-2007 16:23
another great shot !
Scott Browne05-Jul-2007 14:08
I agree. I've seen flags in similar condition in my own country. People anywhere should be ashamed to fly their nation's flag when it's like this.
An excellent photo of this.

Well spotted you knew this shot would be used for something, it could stand for so much!
Guest 05-Jul-2007 13:02
Sad to see that, very well captured.
Jola Dziubinska05-Jul-2007 12:48
Great capture.
Guest 05-Jul-2007 12:41
well done

Perfect pick for the challenge and to represent the terrorist horrors in GB.

Folks don't understand the nature of a flag - that it represents their country. A good image of a bad situation.
Maaike Huizer05-Jul-2007 12:23
It is a bloody shame. Well spotted.
Ann...05-Jul-2007 12:20
Harsh indeed. It is a pity that we do not respect our flag.
Guest 05-Jul-2007 11:52
somewhat poignant. but, yes, good reporting!
Faye White05-Jul-2007 11:25
that is a shame.... but an excellent shot
Rose Atkinson05-Jul-2007 11:21
Wonderful shot Ian - and I agree with you !
Cindi Smith05-Jul-2007 11:12
Yes, they need a new flag. Great find, however and a great shot!
