Ring Ouzel

(turdus torquatus)
The Ring Ouzel is a member of the Thrush family and is sometimes called the Mountain Blackbird. This reflects its habitat preference of upland moors and mountainsides. It is a spring migrant usually arriving in the UK in April and leaving in September. Later there can be some Scandinavian passage migrants coming through. In Scotland, it nests on rocky heathery slopes which are close by to grassy areas where it can search for earthworms.
