The Little Ringed Plover is an uncommon summer migrant in Scotland. It is known to breed in only a very few locations. Within the Clyde Area a pair attempted to nest for a few years in a derelict industrial site in Motherwell, commuting between there and Carbarns Pond by the River Clyde. These photographs were all taken at Carbarns Pond. In 2007 the derelict site began to get overgrown and appeared to be unattractive to the birds. It is not known whether they have nested elsewhere in the area although their visits to Carbarns became sporadic and they may have moved on to somewhere else. In 2008 they again visited Carbarns briefly although later were found a few times in South Lanarkshire close to an area of opencast mining.
