Inland fresh water Otters are not easy animals to find. They are usually quite shy and so can be difficult to get close to. They are also partly nocturnal which is another complication. They are however quite widespread within our area and tend to be very site faithful. The Endrick Water at Loch Lomond NNR has a resident family but my sightings there tend to average about once per year. A more reliable location is at RSPB Baron's Haugh where I have seen Otters quite regularly either in the haugh or more often, in the adjacent River Clyde.

Uncharacteristically, the Otters which live in the White Cart River in the Linn Park/Cathcart area of the south side of Glasgow seem to have become used to noisy people, traffic and barking dogs. There are regular sightings most often in the vicinity of the White Bridge in Linn Park - though this may be because it is a convenient view point.
