(platalea minor)
The Black-faced Spoonbill is an endangered species with a world population in March 2008 of only 2065 birds. It breeds on islands off of North Korea and China, wintering mostly in Taiwan, along the south China coast to Hong Kong and North Vietnam, and in small numbers on Kyushu, Japan. On both of the occasions when we found this species it was in the company of the much more common Eurasian Spoonbill.
