The European White-fronted Goose is an uncommon winter visitor to Scotland. Most winters a few birds will be present but in the UK the majority of birds are in eastern England. In the winter of 2011/12 there was an unprecedented influx of European White-fronts to the UK, possibly an over-shooting migrating flock. In the Clyde area there were birds at several locations with over 300 being recorded in the Upper Clyde valley at The Meetings.
The powers that be have decided to change the name of this species to Russian White-fronted Goose which more accurately reflects its breeding range.
