One of my favourite but also most troublesome aspects of Duffus Castle is this one with the old hawthorn tree. The foreground is basically the car park and doesn't look terribly attractive but beneath a thick coating of rime and with the sun in position to backlight the frosted tree against the brooding bulk of Duffus castle kept slightly soft by choice of depth of field a sense of place is maintained and the picture seems to come alive.
