One wet and rainy evening I arrived to an unpromising scene at Elgol a popular photographer's hotspot on the Isle of Skye and opted to wait out the rain to see if anything would happen towards sunset. Low tide ensured that the coloured rocks on the foreshore would be revealed and I figured the soft light might permit some reasonable shots but then this extraordinary pink glow suffused the underbelly of the cloud mass lighting up the entire sky. It was tremendous soft ambient light and I found myself able to extract both colour and texture from the stones wihout burn out occurring.
