Not exactly pushing the photographic boundaries for originality I grant you, but it is never-the-less one of those images that put me straight back there in such a way that I can feel the kiss of sunlight on my face, the wind ruffling my greying hair and the silent satisfaction of a deserted pristine beach. All these contributing factors make this a really good picture in my view.
Some of the best UK beaches are to be found on the remoter islands such as Lewis and Harris and perhaps one of the most sensational is this one on the west coast of Harris. Miles and miles of golden sand and turquoise water cold enough to make the seals shiver. The full glory of this beach is seen from a substantially higher viewpoint where the varying depths of the water and the expansive skies ensure a painters palette of colour. The lack of human presence in this immense scene together with the soft brush strokes of the dunes shuffling in the wind complete my vision of paradise.
