Loch Awe is a wee gem of a place. It's as wild as you could hope for, windswept has island pine trees and a backdrop of some very shapely peaks. The sense of space here is fantastic and one of the consequences of all this space is that low angle sunlight can burst through without warning and illuminate very small areas with intense sunlight while the background recedes into darkness. For around 15 seconds this is precisely what happened over the island tree carefully positioned so that the canopy is against the dark background peak yet the elevation is adequate to suggest that this is indeed an island and not simply a spit of connected land.
