Here is an early spring photo of the Children's Playground quite fully in use and a Sasaki Garden area in Washington Square Village, taken around 4pm with afternoon shadows.
Unfortunately this playground and garden area already have few precious sunlight hours. The NYU 2031 plans call for the destruction of this playground, garden and park area for a large skyscraper that will put the whole area in eternal shadows.
The complete destruction of the playground, garden areas and park strip will be a major hole in the ground by the end of the year if NYC approves the project.
LaGuardia Corner Garden that hosts about 25 individual garden plots is also threatened to be destroyed by the construction of another planned NYU skyscraper on the block south of WSV.
Due to construction plans, the interior garden areas at WSV have been seriously neglected. Notice the sparseness of the hedge area around the playground and lack of water for the plants. This condition exists throughout the garden areas.
