Kotli II AJK Photo Gallery by Gharib Hanif at pbase.com

Kotli II AJK

The area now comprising district Kotli was a sub-division of Mirpur district up to the year 1975. Prior to 1947, it was a part of the Jammu area. Kotli is a hilly area rising gradually towards the high mountains of Poonch district. The river Poonch passes through Kotli to be joined by a smaller river called the Baan at Brahli, a short distance from Kotli. It is linked with Mirpur by two metalled roads, one via Gulpur and Rajdhani, and the other via Dhungi and Charohi. It is also directly linked with Islamabad/Rawalpindi via Sehnsa and Holar. Kotli has basic facilities like a main bazaar, banks, hospitals, colleges, telephone and telegraph office and hotels. These photos were taken in 2001.

I have served in district Kotli for 3 years and I have seen all these areas each and every inch...... so beautiful ...then got posted to Nekroon, near Kel the most beautiful part of Kashmir, then my last one year stay was at Leepa Valley the second most beautiful valley in Kashmir. I couldn't go back to Kotli after 1997, life becomes so busy and time passes like a space shuttle!!!! I have wonderful memories here and very good friends whom I couldn't see them again! Dildar

Asslamo alaikum every body! First of all, hats off to you brother Hanif, you have done a wonderful job. Unfortunately, I could not visit Kotli for the last decade or so. Out of the blue one day I typed Kotli in the google search engine (I was expecting to find few pictures or news listings). To my amazement, I found this wonderful website with loads of very well presented pictures of our beautiful countryside. There is one picture with caption Sarhota (though I could not figure out where it is in Sarhota!). However, there were some scenes from which I could not take my eyes off. These were part of my daily life some 20 years back when I was studying in college and to be honest I always took them for granted. When I saw them after so many years, all past memories came back alive leaving me with mix feelings of joy and sorrow. I am from Sarhota Kotli and presently work for the Sheffield University, UK. It was great to go back and take our children with us. Especially our son Yusuf who turned 5 while we were there. We left our home which is right in the centre of the Banah valley abot 3:30 pm We took our two boys on top the mount Karjahee near Khuiratta. On top of the Mountain there is castle which unfortunately I dont know much about perhaps some of you could enlighten the rest of us. The Journey was difficult in a pick up lorry hard to believe but this lorry had with no grips on its tyres and was quite slippery however with the help from the brave driver we reached the top with other 23 of our grateful relatives whom had no interest in the mountain or the history of the castle before our arrival. it took us almost three hours to reach the top. It was worth every step. Will post some pictures to view here
