I served under LtGen Conway during Desert Storm. I a Sergeant and he a LtCol at the time. I was a member of 3rd BN, 2nd Marines, 2nd MarDiv... worked as a mortar section leader and a small stench as his legal chief in the S1. I will always remember him as the leader that brought us all home! Under his leadership I felt confident and mission capable. What he taught me and his influence promted me to take a commission myself and now serve as a 1LT. If you ever read this LtGen. Conway... thank you Sir! For then and now!!!
I have such a high respect for the top guys who lead us. They have an extremely tough job navigating the political minefields and still leading their Marines. It is a thankless and very hard job for sure, but if good Marines don't step up to the plate and do it, who will?
Some of these top Marines are national treasures. I do not know Gen Conway personally, but from what I've seen and heard, he appears to be one of the best in the business right now.
Semper Fi,
Matt
Maybe you can let him know about the gallery with him and the big guy?

Lt.General J.T. Conway was my best friend in High School/College. He was the "Best Man" at my (first) wedding many years ago. I am so proud of him, and try to find all I can posted on the internet about him. I talked to his mother and sister a few months ago and told them how proud and happy I am for him that he has become such a great leader for our men in the Marines. I pray for his safety in this time of war in Iraq.
May God Bless Jim Conway!
