Cleland Wildlife Park, near Adelaide

I have several pictures of koalas from the park, including a shot of me holding one, but he wasn’t facing the camera. They told us we had to hold them on our left shoulder, although I’m not really sure why.

I had to go back to my old photos to check. When I hugged and got hugs from a Kaola Bear, I was told to greet him toward my left shoulder. https://pbase.com/britestar/image/135791647 Two other times (different trips and different wildlife sanctuaries when I held them in my arms) I was also told to let the kaola go to my left shoulder. I have never posted those photos yet. But I just did a double check of my archives on the servers & they were lefties. Like with you, no one ever explained why the left shoulder. Just happy to have these one-on-one Kaola encounters, I also never thought to ask about it. Even if the Kaola isn't looking into the camera, you should post the photo of you holding the above guy.

Meanwhile, this is a great photo of the experience that many tourists want to enjoy. I did a lot of wild Kaola photography during my various trips to Australia, but the close encounters at the various wildlife parks were a whole lot more fun. In Nature, photographing them just gives you neck strain; plus, most all they do is sleep and pee while they're sleeping: hour after hour after hours high up in the tree.

He certainly is interested in getting his picture taken. I wonder how those claws felt.
