While living in Canberra we adopted a puppy from a neighbor and named her Suzy. She was half Blue Heeler (Australian cattle dog) and half Border Collie. Suzy lived with us in Washington and Tokyo as well, but we entrusted her to Tim’s mother when we moved to Ankara since she was getting on in years and we had been warned that adequate veterinary services were sorely lacking in Turkey, especially for older dogs. Tim last saw Suzy in Oregon in 2000, shortly before she passed away at the age of 15.

After coming across a long-lost Turkish colleague now living in Australia, I decided to take a look at my pictures from the years we lived in Canberra -- 1985-87 -- our first overseas posting with the State Department. We enjoyed our time there, both living in the capitol city, where I did a BA at the Australian National University and also worked for a local vet, and traveling around the country.
