A memorial to a young child on a bicycle killed by a motorist in Northeast DC. There was a pile of stuffed animals nearby, too. There are a number of infamous intersections in this area where numerous pedestrians and cyclists have been hit by cars, but I’m not sure what has been done about them.
NOTE: Several people asked why the stop sign was facing in the wrong direction, which I couldn't explain, so we went back to see what the story was. It turned out that all four signs at that intersection were double sided, meaning that when a driver approaches the intersection, they can see the correct sign facing them as well as one kitty corner to it. I hope this isn't all the District government did to try to prevent more deaths on the streets in this neighborhood.
Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly unsharp.
