Snowy owl in DC!

This screen shot was taken from a report by the New York Post https://nypost.com/2022/01/12/rare-owl-spotted-several-times-in-washington-dc-since-early-january/ She’s apparently helping decrease the rat population here and has drawn scores of photographers on a nightly basis. Her latest hangout is around Union Station, not far from our house, and I’d love to go down there to try to catch a glimpse, if not a picture, of her, although nighttime temperatures have been well below freezing, and another major snowstorm is forecast for late Sunday. That might make the snowy owl feel right at home, but I’m not so sure I’ll be able to get there, so thought this picture might be a good substitute, in case I can’t.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly
unsharp.

wow what a fantastic bird and very sharply portrayed beautiful details, it is an increasingly common phenomenon that we encounter such apparitions in cities, lovely image Helen BV

She is a beauty. But how odd for her to be around buildings, though not unknown. The males are almost pure white, hard to pick out against the snow, but the females and juveniles are darker and easier to see. I hope you get your chance to see her.

There are several around here in their natural habitat, they are all white at this time of the year and get darker as summer progress.

Poor owl - must be difficult to find food with a bunch of people following it around !!
