Bad news: Fencing and closures may become permanent

Just a drive-by snap of yet another closed street in the vicinity of the Capitol. There are now news reports that the Capitol Police want to make all the barriers around the US Capitol permanent, barring the people from “The People’s House,” and some lawmakers even want them expanded, which would mean that residents of Capitol Hill like us would have no easy way to get downtown and to the western part of the city since Constitution and Independence avenues, both major arteries, would be rendered permanently inaccessible.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly
unsharp.

In the reflection of the Washington Monument, posted earlier:

That is terrible. I hope that doesn’t happen. It’s like living in a prison.

They should put Marjorie Taylor Greene on the outside of that fence.

I hope that doesn’t happen. A depressing state of affairs.

Nice photograph I feel all this is temporary things will get back to normal it will take some time .
When people cross DC off there list for vacations that will hurt there economy most people are not excited about seeing the military presence while on vacation.
Nice image for conversation and viewpoints.

Divide et Impera seem to be the new normal, dark days for the homeland.

I hate that the actions of some have robbed the opportunity of visiting from so many.
I hope this changes.
V for your work.

That’s certainly not good news for residents and future visitors.
John Hamers30-Jan-2021 11:40
Let's hope this will be a temporarily measure. Unthinkable this could happen. !!V

it's sad to see that in the land of freedom and democracy.

I heard this on the news. Each day my heart grows more and more sad. I agree with Dave. This is what the youth of today will inherit from the legacy of #45. Unless things change for the better, some may never know the freedoms that you and I grew up with. Because blockades and razor wire have become necessary to protect our institutions of democracy from anarchists, this is no longer a recognizable USA.

sad news to see all this happening around us.V.
LynnH30-Jan-2021 03:50
I thought that would happen. Too bad.

How sad that things have come to this.
Isabel Cutler30-Jan-2021 01:18
This is getting scarier and scarier. We seem to have full blown sedition on our hands and a bunch of crazy people in Congress.

So sad but such is the state of things today
bill friedlander30-Jan-2021 00:30
A shame that it has come to this.
Dennis Hoyne30-Jan-2021 00:27
The lawmakers are an elite class and should probably be protected from the masses. (Sarc.)
Bill Miller30-Jan-2021 00:10
Let's hope not. It is important for democracy to be seen in action and not hidden from sight.

It's a sad world we live in today. I feel sorry for the young members of our society who will inherit this mess in a polarized country.

In these days, who knows what will happen, perhaps in time they will be removed. Meantime people who live in the area are finding it difficult - the legacy of the former president.

permanent barriers would be a notable aspect of Trump's legacy...still a shocking development for the land of the free..
