It’s impossible to show the sheer magnitude of vehicles awaiting the arrival of the funeral cortege, but there must have been at least 50 police cars with lights flashing lining that one-block stretch of 3rd Street NW/SW. Before we realized what was going on, I counted six K-9 vehicles in a row right in front of us, whose occupants all started barking when they saw people and their dogs out on the street. It was actually all the flashing lights seen from a distance that caused us to park and see what was going on in the first place because there was just too big of a police presence in front of the Capitol for a non-event Sunday.

We went down to the Capitol today because I wanted a picture of it through the huge fence that's been erected all around it. I did get a few of those on drive-by, but then we decided to park the car and see what was going on there because the road in front of it was literally packed with police officers and vehicles. It turned out that the Capitol Police were there in force to attend the funeral procession of USCP Officer Brian Sicknick, who died of injuries sustained during the seditious attack on the US Capitol on January 6 after he was reportedly hit in the head with a fire extinguisher. His death was a tragedy, and I'm glad we were there to pay our respects as his hearse passed by.
