The glare

I found this pose and perspective quite interesting. To me it looks like the heron was glaring at me.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

We stopped by the lake on the National Mall again to see if the heron had flown south. Much to our surprise, he was still there, along with quite a few cormorants, despite the bitterly cold weather we’ve had over the past week, although it was almost 70 degrees on that particular day (!).

You say that you don't see many herons there? We seem to have lots of them in Oregon. In fact, there are several nesting trees locally.
