Tim took this while I was busy photographing a great blue heron in an artificial lake on the National Mall. It was pretty amazing, first to even find it there, and second that it had no fear of me at all. After this picture was taken, I must have been standing four feet from him while he continued to fish. I could have gotten closer but didn’t want him to leave altogether so kept my short distance.

We took a lot of pictures, but I haven’t even had a chance to start going through them.
