We saw several turtles on this visit to the aquatic gardens, something we had missed before. This place is truly a treasure trove of wildlife, and so hard to believe that it’s located right in the nation’s capital.

I had planned to end this gallery, but we went back to the 700-acre Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C., to take another stab at photographing one of the resident herons. Along the way to the marsh we saw lots of other things, including more lotuses, water lilies and dragonflies.
