Eating and watching

I really tried hard to get a good picture of this cardinal, but he kept moving around and then disappearing and returning, so this was the best I could do. I’ve seen him before and was thrilled he showed up at my neighbor’s feeder, which they finally refilled today, but I don’t think he wanted to be photographed. The sparrows obviously didn’t want him around.

I find the feeder provides good practice for me in taking bird shots, which I’ve never done before and most of which don’t turn out, although I’m trying to learn from the mistakes. It would be good if I could set up a tripod on our stoop, but the birds would never stand for it. If I even take one step down our staircase, they all leave, I’m that close to them.
