'Southern Ground-Hornbill,' by Hannes Lochner

“Southern Ground-Hornbill, Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana, by Hannes Lochner, Cape Town, South Africa. This image was NBP Africa Winner, Birds/Portrait category.

Says Lochner: “On this day a hornbill had come across lapwing eggs on the ground. It flipped an egg into the air and swallowed it – a lapwing shrieked loudly in protest and made continuous dive-bombing attempts to demonstrate its futile outrage.”

Incredible shot with perfect timing, though I feel so sorry for the lapwings. But the hornbills need to eat too. The great dilemma.
