'Osprey,' by Dick Dickenson

“Osprey,” Siesta Key, Sarasota, Florida, USA, by Dick Dickenson, Sarasota, Florida, USA. “Professional Winner” in the Audubon Photography Awards, part of the overall competition.

Says Dickenson: “For this shot I was photographing an active nest at the end of a dock on the south end of Siesta Key. Both of the adults were active around their nest; this one was taking off from a nearby perch on its way back to the nest.”

I thought its head visible between the feathers were just amazing. Fantastic timing to get that. I also had to shoot this from the side due to the overwhelming reflections, this the odd angle.

The glimpse of the head between the wings is quite amazing. What a shot.
