The Ben Youssef Medersa (Koranic school) was built in the mid-14th century and was one of the largest and finest in the Mahgreb. It now serves as a tourist attraction. I had wanted to visit it because of my tour guide (Eyewitness Travel “Morocco”), which features a gorgeous door on the cover said to have been photographed there, but it simply doesn’t exist at the medersa.
