The Pearl, from Katara Cultural Village

This is a view of a new development called The Pearl, built on a manmade island in Doha’s bay. We did drive around it, but it wasn’t possible to stop and get any pictures to speak of. There are countless high-rise residences (although I’m not sure who will live in them as I was told there are only 100,000 Qataris out of 2 million people, mainly in the city) along with restaurants and an exclusive shopping mall. It’s a work in progress, with many more buildings still going up.

Build it... and they will come. Nice white beach, but looks awfully empty and lonely there.V

It is interesting to see these cities raising out of the desert. I like the contrast between the high rises and the smaller structure in the foreground. V

Very interesting to read about this mammoth development... a bit depressing to see all those highrises though (but then I am not a fan of highrise buildings). However, a very, very fine photo. V
