An abundance of dates (1)

I had been wanting to photograph some of the abundance of dates around the DQ and finally had a chance to the other night when I went for a walk with Tim and Sahraa.

I hate to admit it, but I had no idea how dates grew or that they even looked like this in their development into the delicacy so very much favored in this part of the world and elsewhere. With all the palm trees in Saudi Arabia, small wonder it’s such a major date producer.

Another shot posted today from the honey bazaar in Asir:

That is really cool. I have only seen them packaged in the grocery store.

Ah, this brings back sweet memories.... Do shopkeepers in SA also hand them out to their customers as a treat (any shopkeeper that is, not just date sellers)?

Great capture.Didn't stop to think they were green like this...so used to seeing them packages in the supermarket or brown as fresh in among the fresh fruit and vegetables.V
